4 eggs
1 lb. brown sugar
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/4 cup citron, shredded
1/4 cup walnuts or almonds, chopped
Beat eggs and sugar till creamy. Sift dry ingredients and add. Blend in nuts and citron. Spread the dough 1/2 inch thick on a wax-paper lined baking sheet. Bake about 30 minutes at 350º.Spread with thin frosting mixture of confectioner's sugar and water while cake is warm. Cut into squares or oblongs. Let sit tightly covered about 1 week before serving.
