Cholent in a one-dish meal, invented so that a hot meal could be served for lunch after Sabbath services on Saturday, when cooking is prohibited. It consists of ingredients that can withstand about 24 hours of cooking, either in a warm oven or a crock-pot. There are as many recipes for cholent as there are for tzimmis. They range from the quite simple to the more elaborate.
